Audi S6 - sports version of the sedan Audi A6 fifth generation (C8). Introduced in April 2019.
Externally, the new “eski” differ from the “civilian” Audi A6 more aggressively designed bumpers, extended wheel arches and four exhaust pipes. In addition, the family trait of Audi S-models has been preserved - silver-colored mirror housings. The cabin is equipped with new sports seats, by default there is a virtual dashboard and four-zone climate control, and for an extra charge you can get original decor elements and a steering wheel with a truncated rim.
The base suspension is spring-loaded with adaptive dampers. Wheel diameter - 20 or 21 inches. At the same time, the ground clearance of the S6 is reduced by 20 mm compared to the original model. An air suspension is optionally available, which in automatic mode at speeds over 120 km / h reduces the ground clearance by another 10 mm. The front brakes in the Audi S6 are equipped with six-piston mechanisms and 400 mm discs, and 350 mm discs are used at the rear. The list of options includes carbon-ceramic brakes, which reduce unsprung weight by 9 kg, and the diameter of the discs in this case is 400 and 370 mm, respectively.
In terms of power, the Audi S6 (C8) is unified with the SQ5 TDI crossover. Under the hood of these cars is hidden the most powerful version of the EA897 engine - V6 3.0 TDI, for which new pistons, connecting rods, crankshaft and lubrication system have been developed, and the cylinder block and heads have separate cooling circuits. Traditional turbocharging is assisted by an electric compressor with a 7-kilowatt motor that can spin the supercharger impeller up to 70 thousand rpm. To do this, the cars received an additional power supply with a voltage of 48 volts and a separate lithium-ion battery for 10 Ah in the trunk underground.
The electric supercharger is only effective up to 1650 rpm of the crankshaft, after which a conventional turbocharger begins to work at full strength. Due to this feature of the engine, the maximum 700 Nm of torque is achieved in a narrow range from 2500 to 3100 rpm. The power of the new motor on the S6 model is 349 hp, which is only 2 hp. less than a crossover.
In addition, the S6 has a hybrid superstructure, in which the starter-alternator is powered by the already mentioned 48-volt network and helps in the first seconds of acceleration. It is also responsible for the quick start of the engine, which is very important due to the fact that when coasting, the electronics can turn off the internal combustion engine for up to 40 seconds. And when braking, the engine can stop already at 22 km / h.
The new Audi S6 received an 8-speed "automatic" and permanent all-wheel drive quattro. The central self-locking differential under normal conditions distributes traction in a ratio of 40:60 in favor of the rear wheels, however, if necessary, up to 70% of the "torque" can be directed forward, and up to 85% backward. An active rear differential is offered for a surcharge. The S6 also got a fully controlled chassis: the actuator can deflect the rear wheels with the help of standard suspension arms - at speeds over 60 km/h they turn in the same direction as the front ones by up to two degrees, increasing stability, and at low speed - in opposite side (maximum deflection 5 degrees), improving maneuverability. The turning circle for machines with this system is reduced by 1.1 m.
The Charged Six accelerates from 0 to 100 km / h in 5.0 seconds, which is 0.6 seconds faster than the previous generation model's 4.4 seconds. Top speed is traditionally limited to 250 km/h.
