Description Audi SQ7

The Audi SQ7 is a sporty version of the second-generation Audi Q7 crossover. The car was presented in March 2016 in Ingolstadt.

At the time of its debut, the Audi SQ7 proved to be the most powerful serial diesel crossover in the world. He was the first to receive an engine equipped with an electromechanical supercharger - a 4.0-liter V8 TDI Biturbo (435 hp, 900 Nm). This power unit is built on the basis of the 4.2 TDI turbodiesel, which was installed on the Audi A8 sedans, but due to the deep modernization it turned out to be almost new. Conventional turbochargers are installed in the collapse of the block (90º). Only one of them works at low and medium speeds, and the second comes into action only at high loads. The third, powered by a small 7-kilowatt motor, an electric powered compressor (EPC - electric powered compressor) is located between the intercooler and the intake pipes. It is capable of spinning up to 70 thousand rpm in just 250 milliseconds and is constantly in a “standby” state, compensating for the effect of the turbo lag.

The eight-cylinder engine on the Audi SQ7 was also the first Audi diesel to feature AVS (Audi valvelift system) valve control. Each of the cams on the intake camshafts has two profiles. One works at low speeds in combination with EPC, and the second optimizes cylinder filling at high speeds. On the exhaust side, the system works differently. During the operation of the first turbocharger and electric supercharger, only one exhaust valve is active on each cylinder. The latter are activated exclusively at high engine speeds and direct the exhaust gases to the impeller of the second turbocharger. This arrangement ensures fast transmission of high torque and dynamic performance over the entire rev range - 900 Nm is available from 1000 to 3250 rpm.

The Audi SQ7 accelerates from 0 to 100 km/h in 4.7 seconds and reaches a top speed of 250 km/h. The powerful engine is combined with an eight-speed tiptronic automatic transmission and a quattro all-wheel drive system with self-locking center differential.

To use the electric compressor in the Audi SQ7, an additional 48-volt electrical system had to be installed. It has its own 470 Wh lithium-ion battery located in the trunk. In addition, the system requires a converter that connects to the on-board 12-volt high-power generator.

The optional electrical system also feeds an active electromechanical roll control system that works in conjunction with an air suspension with adaptive dampers, a fully steered chassis that turns the rear wheels up to 5 degrees in corners, and an active anti-roll bar system with electric motors and a three-stage planetary gearbox. The front and rear stabilizers are adjusted separately, depending on the vehicle's driving conditions. Compared to hydraulically switched stabilizers, the response time is shortened and the threshold response speed is reduced.

The standard equipment of the Audi SQ7 includes full LED headlights. Optionally available are matrix LED optics, a 1920 W Bang & Olufsen audio system with 23 speakers, reinforced carbon-ceramic brakes, two Android tablets connected to the central multimedia system for second-row passengers. In addition, 24 electronic assistants can be ordered, including adaptive cruise control with self-driving in traffic jams. The crossover is available in five- and seven-seater versions.
