The new generation A4 family is officially presented. With the change of generations, the model acquired the family features of the new Q7, became significantly lighter, and also received a methane modification and the most modern equipment from the Audi arsenal.
Audi A4 B9 has surpassed the model of the previous generation in dimensions. In particular, the length of the sedan was 4,726 mm (+25 mm), the width was 1,842 (+16 mm), and the distance between the front and rear axles increased by 12 mm, reaching 2,820 mm. The height remained unchanged - 1,427 mm. The station wagon is 1mm shorter and 7mm taller than the sedan.
More significant changes have occurred with the mass of A4. Thanks to the tricks of German engineers, the car body became 15 kg lighter, the wiring and battery - 6 kg, the seats - 9 kg, the transmission - 16 kg, the differential - 1 kg, the electromechanical power steering - 3.5 kg, and the brakes - for 5 kg.
As before, the model will be offered with front or all-wheel drive. The A4 has a new five-link suspension at the front, the upper arms of which are attached directly to the body, and a multi-link at the rear. To save weight, all arms and hub bearings are made of aluminum.
The basic version of the model will be offered with conventional single-tube shock absorbers, and in more expensive trim levels, the car will receive electronically controlled analogues with standard or sport settings. The characteristics of such shock absorbers are adjusted to road conditions, as well as lateral and longitudinal accelerations. In the first version, the clearance of the model will be 10 mm less than the base modification, and in the second - by 23 mm.
The heart of the new Audi S4 family is the turbocharged 3.0-liter V6 TFSI with combined fuel injection. This unit replaced the previous 3.0-liter "six" with a drive supercharger. The newcomer develops 354 hp. power and 500 Nm of torque, against 333 hp. and 440 Nm of its predecessor and allows you to accelerate from standstill to the first "hundred" in 4.7 seconds (0.3 seconds faster than before). In this case, the maximum speed limiter, as before, will work at 250 km / h.
The Germans also decided to abandon the seven-speed “robot” S tronic with two clutches, replacing it with an 8-band “automatic” ZF, but they did not abandon the traditional all-wheel drive for the model. The Audi S4 has an asymmetric self-locking center differential, which by default distributes torque in a 40/60 ratio with the advantage of the rear axle.
"Eska" differs from the base A4 in a stiffer and lowered by 23 mm suspension, and for an extra charge it can be equipped with adaptive shock absorbers and 19-inch wheels (in the "base" - 18-inch). The exterior of the model also stands out against the background of the “civilian” versions with frosted mirrors, a spoiler on the trunk lid and a diffuser in the rear bumper with four exhaust pipes.
The sports seats of the Audi S4 are upholstered in Alcantara, and the steering wheel is cut off in a sporty way. On the front panel there is a new generation multimedia system with an 8.3-inch screen, Internet connection via 3G and 4G networks, Wi-Fi access point and integration with mobile devices based on Android and iOS. Adaptive cruise control is available for the model, as well as modern electronic assistants. For a surcharge, you can also order a virtual dashboard with a 12.3-inch screen.
